For Thanksgiving this year, we decided to take the kids to Gatlinburg, TN and rent a log cabin for three nights. JC left work at lunch on Wednesday, and we headed west.
By the time we got to Asheville, it started to snow. It was so beautiful and a little scary all at the same time!
Once we made it through the Pisgah National Forest and into Tennessee, we were supposed to take the Blue Ridge Parkway into Gatlinburg, but the parkway was closed. The alternate route put us on a ONE lane mountain road that was scary and very curvy. We stayed on this road for about 3 miles praying that we would not meet another car…eventually we made it to a 2 lane road, but that road's condition was not much better.
Around 4pm we made it. We stayed at a log cabin resort high on top of the mountain. It was beautiful covered in snow.
The kids really enjoyed the cabin…there were two bedrooms and a game room with air hockey, a pool table, a pinball machine and old school arcade games.
Even though it was only about 25 degrees outside, one of the favorite things about the cabin, was the hot tub.
It was so cold outside the first night, that the water froze on the deck just after the kids got out.
Emma got to ride the most things because the smaller rides were out in the sunshine and everything in her section was open. She was very excited about that!
The only fun ride that the boys were able to ride was this huge swinging ride that went back and forth really high up in the air. They rode it twice!
All in all it was a fun day!
Saturday morning, we checked out and headed home. We stopped in the NC mountains and picked out our Christmas tree!
We had a wonderful trip and made many great memories!
On Thanksgiving morning, we had a beautiful sunrise over the mountain. I took this photo off of our back deck.
We had a very relaxing day on Thanksgiving Day. JC braved the roads and drove to Cracker Barrel to pick up our Thanksgiving order. Since everything was snow covered and beautiful we decided to go ahead and try to do the dreaded Christmas card photo shoot! It went ok except it was bitter cold outside and the kids got irritated with me as usual.
On Friday, our last day, we went to Dollywood. It was also very cold that day…44 degrees outside. Because of the snow on Wednesday, a lot of the roller coasters were closed. The boys were so disappointed.
