After Brendan was born, I was obsessed with getting my P*ttery Barn Kids Catalog! It's not that I usually bought anything from the catalog, I just loved looking at the different room designs for both little girls and boys! A few months before Brendan turned one (in 2002), PB Kids had a "Birthday Banner" advertised! It was so cute, but you all know that their prices can be a little expensive - especially for something like a banner! Well, I decided that I could "make" one instead! That is...have my MIL sew two pieces of canvas together and then add the grommets for me since I still don't know how to sew!!! I then painted the letters on the front! They are not perfect, and that's how they were/are supposed to look! It's a good thing...I don't have the steadiest hand when painting!
Anyway, I hung this banner for Brendan's first birthday party, and it was a hit! The best part of all is that I had the foresight to start handprints on the back of this sign on each of the boys' birthdays! I don't know how many years I'll be able to fit on the back, but I'm hoping at least the first 10 years (looks reasonable)! I can't wait for Emma to join our family...there is a spot right in the middle where her little handprints will go on each of her birthdays as well! I'm praying that we will only have missed her first birthday (that breaks my heart just thinking about it)!

That's really cute! I love the hand print idea.
Great job on the birthday banner. It totally looks like Pottery Barn Kids to me! How fun to get it out each year!
What an awesome idea!!!
Can't wait for Emma to add her "prints" - I will continue to pray for her quick entrance into her forever family!!!
This is so adorable. I am also super obssessed with my PB catalogs, and their website. I recently dicovered PB Teen. :)
That is such a wonderful idea...and a great keepsake!! I can't wait to see little Miss Emma's first handprint either.....
I know I still owe you and email...sorry, I am a little behind on my emails....I will get back to you by tomorrow telling you how to get larger pics!!
Have a great night!

You did a GREAT job!

Love it!
Kerry took a photo of Sydney each month of her first year next to a bear her grandmother made. It was a great way to show how much Sydney grew each month. The boys will love to look back and see how their hands have grown. And no doubt, there will be some "competitive" comparisons, too! :)
Email about the house thing...I've got a fabulous plan!

This is fabulous!
I think on the day Emma arrives will be a birthday of sorts so put her hand on the banner to represent that first. :)
You did such a great job! Emma's little hands will be perfect there with her big brothers! What a great thing to have! Stay strong Mommy :)

What a cute thing to do! :)
What a great idea. I may try to make one as a shower gift! I love traditions and I think that would make a great one. Wish I had seen this when Brady was first born.
