04.21.09

I love my father as the stars - he's a bright shining example and a happy twinkling in my heart. ~Adabella Radici
It has been one very long year! 04.21.08 to 04.21.09 - what a milestone! One year ago today, our father passed away, and our world stood still. At the time I remember thinking, how can life just keep going? Work continued, school continued, sports continued, life, in general, continued for all of those around us. I felt like every atom/every cell in my body was frozen by fear, anxiety and extreme grief. As the anniversary of this day has been approaching, I have begun to relive these raw emotions.

I choose to live today in great joy though! I want to remember the great times we had as a family. I want to relish in the fact that I knew my father for 34 years on this earth. I want to remember how it felt to be loved by a father who would have done anything to give me and my sister all that we could have ever wanted.

I miss you Daddy!

"For in our suffering, not apart from it, Jesus enters our sadness, takes us by the hand, pulls us gently up to stand, and invites us to dance. We find the way to pray, as the psalmist did, "You have turned my mouring into dancing" (Psalm 30:11), because at the center of our grief we can find the grace of God."
(excerpt from Henri Nouwen's "Turn My Mourning into Dancing")

We feel very lucky today as well. My Mom was in a horrible car accident this morning. She was hit by a car turning into traffic as she was travelling about 45 mph. Her 4-Runner flipped three times and landed on the hood of a truck in a parking lot. Thanks to her seatbelt and side airbags, she walked away with just a little soreness! What a miracle! We are very thankful tonight for her safety.

Thank you so much for sharing those pictures and words about your dad. I know you miss him so much but at least you have all these memories to look at and think back on.

Thank goodness your mom wasn't injured!

Corey! I understand your sense of loss and I hope you are dealing with it okay. I am SO sorry to hear about your mom's accident, but glad to hear she is okay. As you know, Todd hasn't had fair shakes lately so maybe you can commiserate :) I don't mean to make light of your pain or situation, so I'll just leave you with my wishes of love and peace - xoxo

It so hard when our parents leave us ~ even though we are "grown up." I lost mine over 16 years ago and it seems like just last year. The memories in the photos are lovely. How lucky for your mother to have him watching out for her!

I have been thinking about you and Tres Poshe Preppy (Erika) this week as we all remember our dads. That first year anniversary is tough. You just don't want to believe that a whole year has gone by without them.

A weird thing happened the other night while I was asleep. I woke up to the sound of a dial tone noise. I looked over at my phone and the speaker light was lit up and so the dial tone could be heard. You have to really punch the speaker button fairly hard to get it on so it couldn't have just happened without someone pushing it. Call me crazy but sometimes I think my dad is playing little tricks on me to remind me he's still watching over me.
