Toy Suggestions?

photo from Toys R Us
I am looking for any suggestions on great toys for little girls Emma's age: 18 - 24 months! We are not buying a lot of things - especially before we travel. BUT I will need to pack a few entertaining toys since we will have Emma with us about five days in a hotel in Russia. Any suggestions you all have would be greatly appreciated!

My little granddaughter, Alexandria, is 19 mos. old and her very favorite toy is a Baby Alive Sip-and-Snooze doll. She "feeds" it a bottle and then when you twist the bottle in the baby's mouth, she closes her eyes. It is just the right size for a toddler's hands to hold. She won't go anywhere with her baby!!

a kitchen perhaps, little playhouse, dress up clothes.

Crayons and coloring books! A baby doll. Blocks are always fun. A toy cell phone. Seriously, if she doesn't have her own she will make yours her favorite toy!

Hi this is the first comment I've posted.. but how about those inflatable beach balls. They pack super easy (defalted) and then you can blow it up when you are there. It's light enough that it won't break. Some more ideas would be bubbles (in your checked luggage), stacking cups (our son loved these). We also packed some touch and feel books so we could sit close to him and read. Something as simple as a small maraca may kep her occupied making music with you. Pack lots of cheerios or likewise in a platic bag. Our son loved those, and they were great on the airplane too. :-)

Sorry about all the typos in that earlier comment, I didn't even proof it, I just hit Publish. Whoops! I agree a toy cell phone is a great idea!

I agree with the toy cell phone - they make lots of noise and the little ones love that!

Our daughter was 19mos old when we adopted her from China, one of her favorite toys were brought along where stacking cups - she loved to bang them, stack them; AND they don't take up too much space in your luggage!

My granddaughter is 22 months. She loves a plastic container with a lid to drop random things in. A small ball, those little plastic animals...anything. She just loves filling it up, and emptying it!

The toy cell phone that makes noises when you push the buttons is a must. Meg loved that. The thing she LOVED the most was stickers. She put them all over us, all over herself, all over everything. It was great bonding too because we would have her put them on our face and we would put them on hers and it was great eye contact/touching. Be sure to pack some lift the flap books, all the kids at the orphanage were thrilled with this one thing. Bubbles were great. Get the little bitty bottles like you have at weddings and then if she spills it won't be the whole mess and your only supply. Cheerios are a must. Also, even better than cheerios are the yogurt melts that you get from Gerber. That way if she has any feeding issues (doesn't appear to be from her photos) she can still eat them. Meg would let Brian hold her for the promise of a yogurt melt (otherwise he couldn't get close to her.) Stacking cups are always good. They can double in the tub for water toys AND they can hold cheerios and snacks around the hotel room when you need them.

Be sure you pack lots of plastic baggies. You will need them for the possibly explosive diapers from the diet change.

Jed (almost 15 mos.) LOVES stackable cups and books, especially books with texture and flaps to open. He also seems to love anything from a company called Plan Toys. Good luck!!!

Stacking Cups are a MUST. Fun to build and knock down, play with in the tub, put things into or under, and pretend to feed self with if you add a spoon.

I think this is the first time I have left a comment on your blog???--we adopted our daughter from China at 15 months and the "must have toy" was those "Sassy" brand stacking cups! At age 6 we are still using them in the bath tub!!!! We also took an inflatable beach ball and a play cell phone--all were easy to pack and provided hours of enjoyment. Bandaids are also a fun easy to pack toy--opening them and sticking them all over your legs/arms...--Our daughter entertained herself with a box of bandaids for over 45 min on one of the legs of our flights!!
Best wishes, congrats and good luck!

We waited until we got there to purchase toys (just for the luggage weight limit). Our translater took us to a great toy store. Our sweet girl loved the large lego blocks. We brought a baby and some other small things but she like the blocks. She also liked to play with non toys (things in my purse). She loved to push the small stroller we brought all around the hotel. : )
Do you leave soon? I keep thinking about you guys and your precious Emma. I am praying for you and your great trip to go bring her home!

Love ya!
Julie
