Snow Cream

It is a winter wonderland here in Northwest NC! The snow started around 5:15pm last night, and it is still coming down although now we are getting sleet mixed with fine snow. The totals are down a little from what was predicted but only because the snow mainly turned to sleet in the early morning hours. We have about eight inches of snow now with one inch of ice on top - one more inch expected before this is over. Did I mention that it was 60 degrees here Wednesday? Anyway, with the frigid temperature (23 degrees currently) and the chilling wind, our boys have not ventured out to play but once. They only lasted about 30 minutes before they returned FROZEN!
The one good thing that has come of the snow, however, is SNOW CREAM! I set a large bowl out on the patio table last night to collect our snow, and then I used the allrecipes.com recipe to make our first batch. You can find the recipe via the link here.
Jackson decided to decorate his bowl with sprinkles and an iced cookie on top! YUMMY!!!

We seem only to be getting dusting up in MD - but they had predicted more. Snow Cream - never heard of it, but it sounds good:)

Todd and I made this when we were kids, too! It's only gotten above 23 once here today and that was very brief. Stay tuned for my adventures from this morning. I awoke to a wide-opened back door and a missing Bailey. Don't worry though, he's home safe!

OH snow cream, how I miss thee! I don't think we got enough good clean snow to make any. We may have 3" and this is our first of the year. I've always heard to not eat it. I think we had a lot more sleet mixed in too.

We have gotten NOTHING!!! NOTHING last time and NOTHING this time... enjoy your snow cream... we'll just have to settle for good old Publix ice cream. As a matter of fact, my boys are outside playing football with just sweatshirts. (Yes, it is still in the 40s, but they are running around!)

Oh my goodness...what an amazing idea. I love reading your blog....such beautiful photos and a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I'll be trying the snowcream recipe, living in Colorado provides ample opportunity to do this.
