Brendan's 4th Grade Teacher ROCKS!

In NC, we have "End of Quarter" (EOQ) testing in Math and Reading for all fourth graders. This is a precursor to the End of Grade testing for grades 3 - 8. Just before the 2nd EOQ, Brendan's teacher, Mrs. G, promised her students a special treat if anyone received a perfect score on any section of the tests.

Brendan did in fact receive a perfect score on one out of two sections of the math test. Yesterday he was awarded his "treat"!!! I am not sure Mrs. G could ever top this for any of her students to come.

Of course most of you know that Brendan lives, eats and breathes baseball! So when Mrs. G asked me what Brendan might like, I said "anything baseball...how about baseball cards?"!

It just so happens that Mrs. G is friends with and was in the wedding of one of Bobby Richardson's daughters.

Most of you probably don't know who Mr. Richardson is! He just so happened to play 2nd base for the New York Yankees from 1955 - 1966. According to Wikipedia, he is the ONLY World Series MVP to be chosen from the losing team (1960)!

Career Highlights and Awards
All-Star selection (1957, 1959², 1962, 1962², 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966)
World Series champion (1958, 1961, 1962)
Gold Glove Award winner (1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965)
1960 World Series MVP
1963 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award

This is what Mr. Richardson sent to Mrs. G to give Brendan...amazing!

Mr. Richardson also sent a pamphlet of the life of Mickey Mantle.

What an absolutely amazing gift! I know this is something that Brendan will always cherish especially as he grows as a baseball player.

"In 1960 when Pittsburgh beat us in the World Series, we outscored them 55-27. It was the only time I think the better team lost. I was so disappointed I cried on the plane ride home."
~ Mickey Mantle (the year that Mr. Richardson was selected as the World Series MVP)

"Well, baseball was my whole life. Nothing's ever been as fun as baseball."
Mickey Mantle

Corey Cuthrell!!! What am I going to do with you!? ha ha That was super nice of you to post these things. :) It really is quite "cool" (if I do say so myself) and like you said, as B continues to grow with baseball and learn more and more about the sport, I believe he will come to understand just what "treasures" these things really are. I am so proud of B and his rockin' math skilz!
You guys are awesome!! I'm thankful that our paths have crossed!! :)

Mr. Richardson is awesome! I interviewed him for a journalism piece and I actually got my internship BECAUSE of that piece! I work in sports marketing and that interview was my shining glory! He is super cool and really nice.
