I Made A Mistake

As I mentioned earlier, one of the biggest projects in the new house is a complete renovation of the master bathroom.

JC and I went to pick out tile back at the end of June, and the floor got installed last week...

As soon as I saw the floor tile, I knew that I had made a mistake.

I chose a ceramic tile which "looks like" marble, and the one tile that I saw in the store really looked very similar.

This is the photo of the tile that I found online, and to me this looks like real marble:

When all of the floor tiles had been laid out, the tile really did look like a cheap imitation though.

After sleeping on it for two days and discussing it with JC, I decided to have the tile pulled up before the floors were grouted.

I know this is incredibly wasteful, but I really want to get it right before the vanities and freestanding bathtub are installed.

So, the tile guys came back out and started taking the tile out on Wednesday.

I called the wholesale tile place where we made our selections, and they told me about a white marble 18"x18" tile that they had in stock for only $7 a square foot which is a really amazing price for real marble tile. I went out to look at it, and I decided to go for it.

This is a photo I took in the store while trying to decide...

By Thursday afternoon, the tile had been delivered to our house.

By the end of the day on Friday, the guys had gotten this much down...

In looking at these photos (all taken with my phone), I know it does not look like too much of a difference, but in person, you can tell a BIG difference in the texture and color.

I am going to be VERY happy with this new tile!

Oh my word! You poor thing! This is something I would do! We just picked out all of our flooring and it was quite challenging!

I can't wait to see more pictures!

I would have made the same decision ... it would have driven me nuts and bothered me each time I looked at it ~ given the location, that would be many times on a daily basis :)

Love the new look!

I am just catching up with the blog world after a summer hiatus. You have had a lot going on! I love your new house. I certainly understand ditching the building plans. That was a stressful time for us. I would have made the same tile decision. We put in some tile I really didn't like with the idea of changing and upgrading after a few years and 14 years later I am still looking at it!! I wish I could have a do over!!

I can see why you had to change the tiles that were just installed. It doesn’t look at all like real marble. It’s not as white as the first photo. In any case, it’s a good thing tiles were not yet grouted when noticed that. The newer tiles were definitely a lot better. They look very much like real marble. I particularly like the streaks on the white tiles. They are very well spaced and not too defined, unlike the streaks on the old tiles which looked unnatural.
