One Last Trip to OKI

Two weekends ago, we were fortunate enough to have no travel baseball tournament and no home UNC football game so we picked the boys up from school an hour early and headed east.

We headed straight for Southport and had dinner at a new restaurant by the water called the Frying Pan.  It was absolutely delicious, and I know it will become a place we visit often.  While we were there, the sun was starting to set so I couldn't help but break out the camera and snap a few photos...just like a tourist would!  :)

From the porch coming out of the restaurant...a Coast Guard crew was coming in to dock and have dinner.

On Saturday morning, we attempted to take Christmas card photos.  It was a disaster.  Everyone ended up crying; the boys' hair needed cutting, and the outfits I tried to coordinate did not work.  It was a mess!  We did go back over to Southport for lunch though.  It was a beautiful, crisp October morning.

The only signs of fall were the marsh grasses that had started to turn.

Here you can see the restaurants along the water in Southport...all three of our favorites are here.  Saturday for lunch we ate at Fishy Fishy which is the one you can see all the way to the right.

It was such a gorgeous day to be down by the water.  You could just feel everyone hanging on to the last good days before it turns cold.

Saturday afternoon we spent a little time on the beach and then we went in to watch the Carolina football game on tv.

On the way home Sunday, we made one last trip over to Southport to eat at Provisions...one of our all time favorites.  Provisions closes after the last weekend in October and does not reopen until St. Patrick's Day the next year.

After lunch we walked down to the river's edge and I snapped a few more photos of the kids acting silly.  This was good for me and them since Saturday morning's photoshoot was such a disaster.

Of course the day we had to leave, it was back up to 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  Since JC knew I was really sad about leaving the beach behind for the season, he let us prolong lunch just a little longer.

We walked down to Flavas and each got a scoop of ice cream before getting in the car for the trip home.

It was a great weekend to get away.  Already counting down the months until warmer weather and more ice cream eating outside!  :)

We were down at our condo (Sunset Beach) the last week of August and it rained the ENTIRE time except the first day. I suggested going to Southport since we'd never been. We mainly hung out at the park, walked the pier, went to the museum and headed over to the ferry. I'm going to remember these restaurants. I believe the Southport webcam is at Fishy Fishy?? Next time, it will be a planned trip.

We were at Bald Head that same weekend. I too was sad to be wrapping up the beach season. :(
